How To Make Your Own Blueprint Home Design
Creating and drawing your a blueprint design for your home is a task which does require some planning and artistic ability. But it also something which most people can successfully accomplish, given a bit of time.
The easiest way to do it is by using home blueprint design software. There are a number of software options available, with the most popular programs costing in the range of $250. The advantage of using a computer program is that you don't have to worry about a lack of artistic skills and no math is required. The downside of the design programs are that they typically require a bit of training to use effectively. So if you just need a single design for your personal home, purchasing and learning the software might not be the best use of your time.
There are books available that show you precisely how to draw the blueprint design. These books cost in the range of $20-$25 and you'll also need a few drawing tools. At a minimum, you'll need some large drawing pads, a set of good mechanical pencils, architect's scale, T-square, tracing paper, adjustable triangle and symbol template.
The easiest way to get started is by simply sketching out by hand your overall design plan. It doesn't need to be to scale at this point. You just need to fit all the home's features where you want them in a format you can reproduce later. Once you've arranged all the design elements, you can then make a more formalized copy to scale.
The industry standard for home blueprint designs is to use a scale of 1/4 inch to a foot for the floor plan. In other words, each 1/4 inch on your plan corresponds to one foot in the real-life home. If you begin your formal design by laying out a grid with those measurements, you can then be assured you'll be transferring the design info in a way that is accurate and to scale.
Begin by drawing the exterior walls and work inward. Add the doors and windows, as well as the inner walls, Then move on to the other major design features. Moving from the largest elements to the smallest makes the process move much smoother.
With a little practice, you can create a usable and practical home design blueprint.
